Measure the foot
If you do not have access to a measuring stick like the ones you usually find in stores, you can place the foot on a paper, slide the paper next to the wall and place the foot on the paper with the heel next to the wall. Draw a line in front of the longest toe and measure with a ruler. It is essential to stand up because the foot is pressed out a few millimeters when it weights of the body on top. Measure both feet as it is not uncommon for one foot to be slightly larger than the other. When you have obtained the foot length, you will add the recommended space depending on the type of shoe. Adults can go more on feeling.
How often should you measure your feet?
Adults rarely need to measure their feet because they have stopped growing. The infant foot, on the other hand, can grow as much as 5 mm in a month. Therefore, it is important to measure children's feet at regular intervals. In the worst case, too small or too narrow shoes can damage the foot because the skeleton is still growing and forming at a young age. Do not rely on the child to tell when the shoe has become too small.
When is it time to change to a bigger size?
When there is less than 5mm left in front of the toes, it's time for new shoes. For every step you take, the foot moves, so you need a 5mm walkway to prevent the toes from hitting the front of the shoe.
