All shoes marked with this symbol are made of chrome-free leather. Our chrome-free leathers are tanned completely without chrome and are kept separate from other leathers at tanneries and when stored. Machines used when tanning the leather must be thoroughly cleaned or only used for chrome-free production. The leathers are controlled annually by independent laboratories. Shoes made in our EP Leather (Eco Performance) are always chrome-free. We have also developed a new chrome-free variant of our popular XC leather (Cross Country) which is gradually being implemented in the rest of the collections.
Made in Europe.
Cross Country Leather
Our Cross Country Leather (XC) is manufactured in Europe. It is a leather that is maintenance-free, durable and highly water-resistant.
Care: Shoes made of XC leather are easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. They do not need to be impregnated or greased as the membrane on the outside is intact. In case of wear, you can impregnate the part that is worn away to maintain water tightness and protect the shoe.
Cross Country Nubuck
Cross Country Nubuck (XCN) is an extra soft leather made in Europe. The skin is impregnated to be more resistant, all while preserving the breathability and the natural grain hide.
Care: Impregnate the shoes every so often, preferably with a waterbased spray which is often more environmentally friendly. Remove dirt with a soft brush and mild detergent if needed. Let dry at room temperature.
Cross Country Suede
Cross Country Suede (XCS) is one of or our softer leathers. This suede is, just like all our other leathers, made in Europe. The skin is impregnated to be more resistant, all while preserving the breathability.
Care: Impregnate the shoes every so often, preferably with a waterbased spray, which is often more environmentally friendly. Remove dirt with a soft brush and mild detergent if needed. Let dry at room temperature.
Eco Performance Leather
Our Eco Performace Leather (EP) is manufactured in Europe. It is a chrome-free leather with water-repellent properties. It has a natural grain that is unique to each shoe and over time it develops a beautiful patina.
Care: The eco-labeled leather requires a little extra love to retain its fine properties. Clean it with a damp cloth, allow to dry and then lubricate with KAVAT's wax or shoe polish. In case of heavy wear, a colored shoe cream can be good for covering marks and restoring the leather.
Left Over Leather
Shoes marked with this symbol are made of left over leather, ie, offcuts that remain after cutting out pieces for other shoes. Usually, these pieces are thrown away. That seems unnecessary to us when it is still fully functional material. We save them and make sandals and other details of them. This is one way that we work to reduce our waste.
Vegetable Tanned Leather
Vegetable Tanned Leather is a chrome-free leather made in Europe. The grain hide and color is natural and unique to each pair and develop a beautiful patina with time. Vegetable-tanned leather works just like your skin: when exposed to light the color changes over time which results in shoes that are one of a kind.
Care: The vegetable-tanned leather requires some extra care in order to retain its great qualities. Wipe with a damp cloth, let dry and use Kavats Eco Wax or shoe polish. Consider a tinted shoe polish to cover marks If the leather is significantly worn.
