How to find shoes that fit

To find the right size for your or your childrens' feet can be difficult. Thats why we've collected the best tips to find shoes that fit, both big and small.

The best is to start with measuring your feet. It's easiest with a measuring stick, but it is of course possible to measure without it.

Measure the feet with or without a measuring stick

If you have a measuring stick use it to measure the feet. It's important to stand up while measuring since the feet expands a bit from the body weight.

If you don't have a measuring stick you can use a paper. Place the paper on the floor against the wall and place the feet on top of it with the heel against the wall. Use a pen to mark where the longest toe is on the paper. Use a ruler to measure the distance.

It's important to stand up while measuring since the feet expands a bit from the body weight. Measure both feet since it's not unusual that one foot is a bit longer than the other.

When you have measured the foot length add the recommended space depending on the type of shoe, which you can find in the adjacent table. Adults can go more on feeling.

Congratulations! You have a measurement you can use to find the appropriate sized shoe from.

How often should you measure your feet?
Adults rarely need to measure their feet because they have stopped growing. The infant foot, on the other hand, can grow as much as 5 mm in a month. Therefore, it is important to measure children's feet at regular intervals. In the worst case, too small or too narrow shoes can damage the foot because the skeleton is still growing and forming at a young age. Do not rely on the child to tell when the shoe has become too small.

How fast do the feet grow?
1-2 years old: 20 mm/year
2-3 years old: 15 mm/year
3-11 years old: 10 mm/year

When is it time to change to a bigger size?
When there is less than 5mm left in front of the toes, it's time for new shoes. For every step you take, the foot moves, so you need a 5mm walkway to prevent the toes from hitting the front of the shoe.
